Alpines - 'Cocoon'.

We’ve long been admirers of Alpines, ever since catching them at their first ever official show at down at our favourite South London venue, the Tooting Tram and Social back in January.

They’re now on single 3 and it’s another stormer! It just gets better and better with ‘Cocoon’, which is released on 22nd August on Polydor. And to top things off, “fellow UK’er and beat-addled knob-twiddler xxxy has remixed the single, adding his “own poly-syncopated take on the ethereal tune.” Pitchfork

FLIC CLUB: SUMMER (20 years ago): Gross Magic / Weird Dreams → flicclub.tumblr.com

flicclub:

Every band I was ever in the standard format for creating names was: an everyday noun + unrelated word/object. This obviously (90% of the time) created a bunch of terrible names that will only end up haunting you in future interviews when the infamous question gets asked. Two bands who have chosen to embrace such a formula (and I’d argue successfully) are Gross Magic and Weird Dreams (ok their name does makes sense.. big whoop?). Both bands give a contemporary take on 90’s guitar music, with Gross Magic’s ‘Sweetest Thing’ video proving this (rather unashamedly..) Weird Dreams leave more to think about, although live it still feels early there’s something about Doran Edwards songwriting that suggests the best it come…

Introducing Strangers

We put them on for their first ever London show back in May at The Shacklewell Arms and what a great show it was!

As of this week their first 7” single was released and we just thought we’d tell you a little bit more about them and give you a load of lovely links…

Formed in 2010, Strangers is the brainchild of David Maddox-Jones, formerly of The Departure. In March 2011, the band unleashed their first recorded offering, EP1:

[STRANGERS] - [E.P1] by [STRANGERS]

Produced by stalwart remixer/producer and Strangers band member Glen Nicholls (Depeche Mode, UNKLE, Everything Everything) EP2 features three haunting tracks echoes the ethereal synth sounds of the 1980s, with pounding rhythms and soaring soundscapes:

[STRANGERS] - [EP2]…Coming July 2011 by [STRANGERS]

In addition to the digital release of EP2, Strangers will release a limited edition 7inch single, through Killing Moon Records on 4th July, featuring the lead tracks from EP1 and EP2, It Was a Sin and If I Found Love.

Check out their YouTube channel for all the videos/ get this FREE DOWNLOAD of - It Was A Sin (Forgold Remix) / and get yourselves down to the launch at the Wheelbarrow on 13th July.
